I am super pleased to announce that Joshua won artist of the week for the Grade 4-6 on artsonia.com! His work pulled in 1,195 votes! This tells me we have a great community that supports the arts and our students, this was exciting to see! He will get a plaque with his work on it and a gift card for art supplies at Blick Art Supplies. Congratulations to Josh!

http://www.artsonia.com/museum/aotw/vote.asp We have two 5th grade classes that are participating in an iPad pilot this year. The kids are able to bring the iPads to art class and we had fun the other day exploring the app Doodle Buddy. Students learned how to find contour lines and create self portraits. Here are a couple five minute quick draws that we did last week. Students with the iPads have also been able to upload their own artwork to artsonia.com and write their artist statements articulating what they learned. Looking forward to trying out more apps for creating art! Check out their work on our online gallery! http://www.artsonia.com/schools/school.asp?id=70045 Three 6th graders from Nickels Intermediate School had their artwork selected by a jury to be on display at the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) for the month of February. They were able to attend a wonderful reception that was set up for the families at the GRAM. Their work will also be on display at a State level show in Lansing! Congratulations to Andrea, Kyle, and Kaila on their hard work! |
