We were awarded a grant to purchase a wheel for the visual art classroom at Nickels! Thanks to the support from Michigan Youth Arts and the Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs, many students who go through the Byron Center Public School system will be able to try out the pottery wheel. Below is a photo of the inaugural celebration for the wheel! Our first student to try it outl at Nickels was Brady! There is a long list of students who are excited to create using the wheel!
Our students are so talented and today they were able to show off their skills! The following students had their work accepted to the MAEA Region 9 art show and their art will go onto the state art show! Nickels is so lucky to have such talented students! I feel so lucky to be a part of such an amazing art teaching team and groups of students!
If you see Hanna R, Jackie K, Logan N, Emmie P, Josh P, Bryanna T, or Ava P in the hall; please congratulate them on their hard work and this honor! Students had fun this year learning about the different stages of clay while making their mugs. Here are a few examples.
5th and 6th grade art students are working on writing artist statemens about their work from this year. Check them out on our artsonia.com page here: http://www.artsonia.com/schools/statements.asp?id=70045&type=statements
