All 6th grade students will be coming home with a artsonia.com coupon this week. We have been working on holiday art and it will be posted by Friday, if the student has finished on time. There are many other galleries to look at too. This is a great way to create cusom holiday cards or other keepsakes. Below is what the coupon looks like. Remember the school earns 20% back as a fundraiser for the art room!
There will be an artist reception on Monday December 8th from 5:30-6:30 for K-12 visual artists. The reception is in the Gainey Gallery, which is attached to the Van Singel Fine Arts Center, attached to the high school. 6th graders, please check the posting in Schoology to see if you have work in the show. If you do not, stop by anyway to see all of the beautiful work and support your fellow classmates and the visual arts district wide. Artastic is after the reception, stick around to hear our musicians in the district as well!
6th graders recently finished working with clay. They did a nice job creating totem pole mugs. They are air drying right now and getting ready to go in the kiln for firing. After they have been fired one time, students will get a chance to glaze their work.
Take a look at their work on our artsonia.com gallery: http://www.artsonia.com/schools/school.asp?id=70045 Students have been working on mixing colors and learning different painting techniques. They are applying the skills they have learned to landscape paintings. THey are using bright and vivid colors, similar to the Fauves. Check back later for a link to completed paintings!
Friends and Families of the Fine Arts,
Byron Center Fine Arts Boosters (BCFAB) will be holding the annual Craft Fair on Saturday, November 8. This event is our largest fundraiser of the year. The money raised goes directly to help support Byron Center's K-12 programs in the performing, visual and technical arts. Your help is needed to ensure the Craft Fair is a success. Please click on the links below to see how you can help. As you will see, this is a major undertaking, requiring many hands and many talents! Thank you for supporting the arts in Byron Center! We can't do it without YOU! Kendall College of Art and Design offered a workshop for students to draw self portraits based on the quote by Jesse Jackson, "Never look down on anybody unless you're helping them up". Students were encouraged to think of a time where they did a selfless act and helped someone. They then were asked to draw what they feel they would have looked like during that time. Their self portraits will be on display the duration of ArtPrize at Kendall College of Art and Design. Visit our artsonia.com online gallery to view their art digitally. http://www.artsonia.com/museum/gallery.asp?exhibit=841419 self portrait by Bob
Our trip was a success! We made art at Kendall College of Art and Design and visited KCAD Federal Building, UICA, and Site Lab. Students were exposed to many different types of contemporary arts while on the trip. Here are some photos of their experiences. 6th grade students each worked on a small square of this poster. Each part on it's own is interesting and unique, and once put together it is a masterpiece! This is the first piece of artwork hung in the halls at Nickels this year, watch for many more to come!
